The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is one of the six main organs of the United Nations.  Formed in 1945, the GA is the main deliberative council, and is the only one in which all 193 member nations have equal representation. The assembly meets under either the president, Mogens Lykketoft or the Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon in regular yearly sessions.
In addition to overseeing the budget of the United Nations, the GA is also responsible for appointing non-permanent members to the Security Council, receiving reports from other committees and parts in the United Nations and, the function that is simulated by the Model UN, making recommendations in the form of General Assembly Resolutions.

Currently, one of the main points in the agenda for the GA are the sustainable development goals, which have replaced the millennium development goals. Issues that are also on the GA’s agenda for the year include the question of protecting the climate, the treatment of Palestinians in occupied territories, disarmament and global food security.
