“All victims of human rights abuses should be able to look to the Human Rights Council as a forum and a springboard for action.”

-Ban Ki Moon, UN Secretary-General, 12.03.07

The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is the body in charge of strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights across the globe. It ensures that human rights are being recognized in member states, encourages effective solutions to end discrimination or unfair treatment, and has the capacity to address all categorical human rights issues that raise themselves throughout the course of the year.

The UNHRC consists of 47 member states, which are elected by the General Assembly.

Our Model Human Rights Council this year will focus on threats to human rights by terrorism, famines, and xenophilia.
